Work to improve a Larkhall road means it will need to be closed this weekend.

Essential repairs to Muir Street at Church Street (Charing Cross) will require the road to close from 7am on Saturday, 18 April, until 8pm the next day.

To safely manage the traffic flow and allow the resurfacing work to be completed as quickly as possible, temporary traffic lights will be in place on Union Street, McNeil Street and Church Street in the approaches to the roadworks.

A diversion route will be in place and will use Muir Street, Percy Street, Montgomery Street and Union Street.

No vehicles (except those engaged in the work and emergency service vehicles) will be able to drive within the road closure during this time and parking will be suspended in the immediate surroundings of the works.

Colin Park, the council’s Head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, said: “Unfortunately, it is not feasible to enable any sort of access for vehicles onto this section of Muir Street while the resurfacing is being carried out, which is why we are trying to minimise disruption by carrying out the work over one weekend.

“We therefore urge all road users to take notice of this closure and think how it might affect their journeys, and then plan ahead and allow extra time for travelling if necessary.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause to people in Larkhall, but their patience and understanding during these two days would be much appreciated.  I know everyone who uses Muir Stret will see a considerable benefit in the much-improved condition of the road when the works are complete.”
